A beautiful Marquee DIY wedding

A countryside wedding is definitely my cup of tea; with plenty of open space, the option to move freely searching for natural compositions and the potential for a gorgeous sunset. So when Georgina & Andrew told me all about their DIY marquee wedding on their private land surrounded by the rolling Rutland countryside, I couldn’t contain my excitement, it sounded right up my street.

Straight from the word go – this wedding was action packed. Georgina had planned this day to perfection. I suppose you have to enjoy organising if you plan to have a DIY wedding. All of the sweet, personal touches just made this wedding that extra bit special.

Georgina’s enthusiasm for photos was immense, I loved her energy and excitement; every spare moment we had she would want to be taking photos. I obliged of course, for that’s what I’m here for.

We even took a quick detour to Eyebrook reservoir, whilst the guests made their way from the church to the venue. Here we captured some lovely scenic images with views over the Rutland countryside.  Without a doubt I took the most photos I’ve ever shot at a wedding that day.

My personal highlight was the golden hour foray into the fields. We had so much fun chasing the light, speedily moving from one location to the next to maximise creativity and variety.

Luckily they were blessed with gorgeous weather, I suppose with the marquee DIY weddings you are in the hands of the weather gods, but the forecast couldn’t have been kinder. The feel good vibe throughout the day trickled into the evening, the marquee was bouncing with energy all night long.

A stunning day of photography, but I sure was ready for a rest after it.

Old Hall Ely Wedding Photography – Sarah & Michael

On arrival the Old Hall in Ely looked magical. What a beautiful winter scene. The Old Hall offers some stunning potential for waterscape and landscape wedding photography all year round.

It was evident from the start that Sarah & Michael were so deeply in love. The expressions and emotions from this wedding where so intense and true I couldn’t help but just get wrapped up in it all. Sometimes the emotion of a wedding just takes over and you just shoot on instinct, looking more for reactions and moments as opposed to compositions and framing.

The warmth was eventually broken when we all had to step outside; we braced the elements and managed to capture some beautifully romantic images. Sarah had the most wonderful smile and real uplifting energy; she was a natural in front of the camera.

The Old Hall was dressed perfectly for a winter wedding, tea lights and table candles brought warmth and life to the marquee.

After Dark Photography

With lack of daylight hours in the winter, you always have to push yourself to come up with new creative ideas for the after dark photography. This part of the day really excites me and I enjoy the challenge of coming up with new ideas for my couples

This really was just the most perfect winter wedding,  thank you for letting me be a part of it.

When you choose your wedding day you always hope for nice weather and boy did Carla and Lee get just that; they choose the hottest day of the year, and they both certainly brought the heat.

I loved working with these two, both expressive, outgoing and loads of fun. This really showed in their images. The ability to just let go, laugh, be yourselves and take the day in your stride is what a wedding is all about, in my eyes anyway.

Wedding Couple Portraits

Once we got through the initial heat of the day they were both keen to put some time into their portraits. The light was beautiful, Sissons Barn offered the stunning backdrops, and then with a little guidance and direction we came away with some cracking photos.

My personal highlight was when we made use of Lee’s Dad’s vintage truck. It looked fantastic in the evening light, as the dust kicked up off the road to create this Wild Western atmosphere

If you follow me on social media you’ll know that I’m quite partial to some after dark photography, even in the summer I stay until nightfall. I love creating after dark images for my couples and Sissons barn has great potential for images like this.

I produced some of my all time favourite wedding photographs this day and that is thanks to this pair just being themselves and willing to try something new. Thank you for letting me be a part of your wedding.
